What to do about student absences.
Each student is expected to attend school each day unless he/she is too ill.
Sports carnivals and excursions are regarded as an important part of the school educational program and all students are expected to be at school regardless of the change of routine.
A note with a satisfactory explanation, either from a parent or guardian, must be brought in on the first day of your return to School. This note must be written in full by your parent or guardian. This note is to be placed in the metal letterbox near the administration counter. Parents may also notify the school of their child's absence on the morning concerned.
With the WebAttend system in place, an email message to a parent/guardian will be sent for all absent students. This email generally is sent before 12.00 pm. A email reply explaining the student absence is sufficient.
PASS OUT PROCEDURES
If parents wish their child to leave school before the end of the school day, a note requesting early departure, indicating time and reason, should be presented to a Deputy Principal before school (reasons should fit the guidelines of medical, legal or necessary supervision). The student will then be issued with a Pass Out, which must be recorded in the Pass Out Book at the School Office. At the time indicated on the Pass Out, the student will report to the School Office and the Pass Out Book will be signed, to indicate that the student has left the premises. Pass Out requests for Thursdays (sport day for students in Years 9 - 11) must be presented BEFORE Thursday and necessary documentation (e.g. dental appointment cards) must be presetned.
LEAVE DURING SCHOOL TERMS
If parents wish to take their children out of school for family holidays that are unable to be taken during normal vacation time, a letter requesting permission MUST be submitted in advance to the Principal.
Parents should be aware that such leave may cause difficulties with the attendance requirements for the School Certificate or Higher School Certificate. For leave of more than 12 days, parents must apply for an exemption. Forms are available from the school office.
