Parents & Carers (P&C)
Welcome to St Ives High School Community
The Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) aims to develop a strong school community and partnership between the staff, the students and the parents so that SIHS can continue to provide a quality education that turns out well-rounded students.
This is truly an outstanding school in so many ways and that takes great students, terrific staff and parents, families and friends that are closely involved in any number of ways. We really do appreciate the funds and time volunteered by parents to support the school and welcome new families.
What we do:
SIHS P&C promotes student welfare and provides many extra-curricular opportunities for students as well as facilities and equipment for the school.
The P&C receives regular updates and reports from the Principal, Mark Watson, and provides him with feedback from our parent body on school-related issues. The P&C works hard to try to ensure that parental views are represented. A recent example of this are the 2012 and 2013 anonymous on-line parent surveys run by P&C volunteers to gather feedback from parents regarding specific areas of school life at SIHS. The data from these surveys is actively being used as part of the school planning process.
September 2017 - Year 12 - 2017 Graduation Night
Over 400 guests attended the Year 12 Graduation Ceremony to celebrate the graduating class of 2017.
SIHS staff, Year 12 students, families and friends enjoyed the fabulous event on Wednesday 20th September in the school auditorium.
The school was transformed by lights and decorations to honour the event and guests were provided with excellent catering provided by the Hospitality students.
This event is a partnership between the school and the P&C - the school coordinates the formal ceremony, awards and presentations, and the Year 11 P&C Coordinators (Megan and Ali) and Year 11 parents volunteer their time to manage the ticketing, catering and decorations.
On behalf of all who attended the event - thank you to everyone involved in a magnificent event! Libby and Liz - 2017 Year 12 P&C Coordinators
June 2017 - Working Bee Miracle!
The next time you visit the school, have a look at the area in front of the hall, Trade Training Centre and Quadrangle.
It looks amazing! Last weekend it received a massive makeover from a working bee of parents organised by the P&C. Thanks from the whole school community go to Christina L and her team of volunteers for the outstanding job.
April 2017 - Success!! 3 x Telstra Kids funds awarded to SIHS
April 2017 - Embrace Movie Event
February 2017 - New St Ives High Art Exhibition at St Ives Shopping Village
Following our outstanding participation (featured in the North Shore Times) in the Year 12 Exhibition over the holiday period, the new St Ives High Art Exhibition, kindly hosted by St Ives Shopping Village, is currently on display at their Gallery (access via the ramp entrances opposite The Living Room and the Post Office), and runs until next Friday 17th February.
This is an event not to be missed - the standard achieved by our students is extraordinary. I thank the wonderful band of parents, students and school staff who between them organised this exhibition and volunteered to transport and hang the artworks last Friday.
A very big Thank You to St Ives Shopping Village, not only for inviting us to stage this event and helping us on Friday but also for their ongoing generous support for our school.
February 2017 - Refurbished Uniform Shop Storeroom
Our storeroom has had a makeover!! In keeping with many new processes and practices we have introduced, via our Uniform Shop Subcommittee, we have refurbished our storeroom to improve productivity for our uniform shop volunteers. Enormous thanks to dads Ali P and Bahram H for a stellar building job last weekend in the heat. They were well supported by Nilu H and Megan S who sorted, counted, labeled and brought order.
December 2016 - Deafness Foundation Grant
Success! The P&C are delighted to announce that St Ives High School has received a grant of $2790 to provide assistive technology for our Hearing Impaired students.
The Deafness Foundation has granted the funds after an application made by the P&C in conjunction with Ruth Joynes, Hearing Impairment Unit Head, to buy new Phonac technology which will enable our students to participate more fully in the life of the school. The technology will be used for events such as assemblies where it can be difficult for Hearing Impaired students to be involved. It is a very exciting opportunity! As one of only two schools in Sydney that has a specialist unit, we are very proud of the work done by our Hearing Impairment Unit which promotes inclusivity and diversity.

September 2016 - Graduation Night
The P&C in partnership with the school coordinated the Year 12 Graduation Ceremony on the evening of Thursday 21st September.
Over 560 guests attended this very special event that honoured and farewelled our graduating Year 12 students.
The school hall and COLA were transformed into a ‘celebration space' with decorations and spectacular lighting and a special thank you goes to all the parent volunteers who made this happen. It was a fabulous evening.
The next P&C event will be Orientation Day in December. The 2017 Year 7 students and their families will be welcomed to the school and will have the opportunity to orientate themselves in preparation for starting High School.
We look forward to meeting the new students and families.
March 2016 - Combined Morning Tea/Coffee @ Cafe Yarrabung
Cafe Yarrabung at SIHS was the place to be on Thursday 30 March 2016 when the P&C hosted a coffee morning for parents. A great turnout from parents of year 7 through to year 12 meant great opportunities to informally connect with parents across all year groups. Those who have been at the School more than a year or so were able to share their knowledge and experiences with others. It is always helpful to know what lies ahead! Principal Mark Watson also attended and spent time informally chatting to parents about a range of topics from new courses, band and choir, HSC, plans for the school and other exciting new initiatives. Our thanks to Megan Bond, Head Teacher of TAS for opening Cafe Yarrabung - a great chance for us to see the Trade Training Centre in action.
We look forward to meeting many more of you at future SIHS events.
